Project 6 - Client Project - Fish Tank House

For this project each of us were given a client, which was another student in the class. This student would then give me a design brief for a certain design, product or structure they wanted. My client was Chanelle, and her design brief was to design a small house which encapsulated a large fish tank, however this fish tank must be seen from every room in the house.

Initial designs for a fish tank that can be incorporated into a home yet still be aesthetically pleasing and not take up unnecessary room.

Here are the glass panels which will enclose the water and fish

Here are storage compartments that I have incorporated into the design so that it is not only an aesthetic piece but also a functional one.

“A planter and a fish tank joined together.” (Designers: Sheng-Zhe Feng and Ling-Yuan Chou)

“This fish tank coffee table is a crowd pleasure. Its base is a fully functional aquarium, and due to the beleveled glass, nothing you place on the table will disturb the fish. There is a two inch opening on the surface where feeding occurs and the entire glass top is easily lifted when it is time to add fish or redecorate.”

“This highly entertaining accessory allows you to enjoy an aquarium or zen garden within your restroom. The top glass rises in case you need to rearrange the decor and both sides offer a large, circular entry for fish feeding.”

Designed by Paula Rodríguez

I designed the fish tank in a triangular shape so that it could be viewed from 3 different angles, all of which from 3 different rooms. The fish tank is designed in a stack so that one tank is above the other, giving the client more of a choice for variety of fish and marine life they decide to place in the fish tanks.

I also incorporated spots lights into the design so that at night, the marine life inside the fish tanks can be lit up and seen no matter the lighting inside the house.
I left a gap between the top of the fish tank and the glass so that it can still be accessed by the client for maintenance and feeding.

Here is a top down view of the small 4 room house which is connected in the middle by the fish tank. As you can see from this view, all 4 rooms have a clear view of the fish tank from 4 different angles.

These 4 rooms consist of a dining area, a living room, a bed room and a fish tank maintenance room.

From this angle you can see the living room section which is the most clear view of the fish tank in the house. This would be most appropriate as the living room is the largest room and the most time will be spent here.

The fish tank acts a center piece for the room and will invite more socialising then a television would.

From this angle you can see the view from the dining area. The flat side of the fish tank allows it to act a normal wall for the room, with the obvious aesthetic improvement.

The fish tank will create a relaxed glow and mood for the room, creating a fun atmosphere for the room.
