Project 7 - Beyond the Fundamental - Hat Storage

For this project I was given the task of designing a hat storage unit

This hat storage unit is more conventional, storing the hats in separate compartments, stacked vertically, in 4 rows. I will adopt the separate compartment design for my product.

This is a more compact and mobile way to store hats as it can be closed, zipped up, and taken away. However it can only contain 4 hats.

Here, the designer used a more minimal design to store the hats. As you can see the hats are suspended on hooks which are connected to a long beam which is stuck to the wall. I will incorporate this single stacking to my own design.

Through the use of inspiration from the design and some ingenuity, I will design my hat storage unit to be ideal for its purpose.

Here the designer re purposed a set of draws to contain the hats. I like this design as it shields the hats from dust settling on them. I will incorporate a mechanical door into my design.

For my final design I tried to incorporate design ideas from other hat storage units I have researched, however also adding my own design queues and innovations.
Some of the design elements that set this hat storage unit apart are:
The general aesthetics of the unit set it apart from any other on the market. With the curvature of the doors and the two tone black and white exterior doors and interior draws.

Both doors can be opened on a hinge so that the hats inside can be accessed more easily if the user was to insert a large hat or an oddly shaped one.
Here is an animation of the final design with hats inserted inside to show what it would like when being used for its purpose.
